Vince Gorman

Vince Gorman, bass, hails from the Pittsburgh area and calls Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, home.

He studied at Slippery Rock University as performance major. His teachers include Jeff Mangone and Leo Ficks for bass and Terry Steele and Steve Hawk for jazz studies.

Vince has performed with groups such as The Marc Bodell Trio, Dr. Zoot, Lance LaDuke and the Malcontents, Mike Clancy Quartet, Al Dowe Quintet, Joe Herndon Little Big Band, The Uptown Combo as well as the 2004-05 National Tour “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. He was the Musical Director for the Billy Mancini Band, and is the Co- Director of the Hopewell Community Jazz Ensemble.

He has worked with noted artists Jeff Coffin, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Claudio Roditi, Rufus Reid, Joe Negri, Dave Keim, and Kim Nazarian of the New York Voices. He also was featured on 2002 SRU Jazz recording of  Oscar Pettiford’s “Tricrotism” arranged By Jim McNeely, bass arranged by Vince Gorman.

Vince’s day job is working in instrument sales and as an instrument luthier for Volkwein’s. He enjoys music composition and arranging, playing disc golf, and mountain biking,

Vince performs on a 1939 Kay Navy Double Bass, a Carvin Custom Built 6-string Fretless Electric bass as well as a NS Design WAV4 EUB. He uses Thomastic Spirocore and Thomastic Electric Flat Jazz Strings, Underwood and Realist Pickups, a Fishman Platinum Pre-amp, Planet Waves Cables as well as Bag End, SWR, Carvin, and Yamaha Amps and Cabs. He first joined the organization during January 2006.
